The Vello FreeWave Micro is a compact wireless remote shutter release designed for compatible film and digital cameras equipped with a Nikon 10-pin remote connector. Its 2.4 GHz radio-frequency system provides remote camera triggering at distances of up to 328 Feet / 100 m and does not require direct line-of-sight positioning.

Sixteen selectable wireless channels help reduce interference from nearby wireless devices. The receiver locks directly into the camera's 10-pin remote port without a separate connecting cable, while the built-in antenna supports reliable signal reception.

The dual-function shutter release allows the photographer to press halfway to activate autofocus and press fully to release the shutter. Focus, shutter, and shooting-alarm confirmation LEDs provide visual operating feedback from the transmitter.

Bulb operation allows the remote to open and close the shutter for long exposures when the connected camera is set to Bulb mode. The remote can also be used while the camera is configured for continuous shooting, making it useful for long exposures, tripod photography, self-portraits, wildlife, studio setups, and other situations where touching the camera could introduce movement.

The handheld transmitter is powered by one AAA battery, while the receiver draws its operating power directly from the connected camera. A removable lanyard allows the transmitter to be worn as a wrist strap for convenient access while shooting.
